This travel is for Mario an illuminating journey in which he feels stranger in his own land. This is a travel of discomfort, the discomfort of the journey into the unknown where the everyday is replaced by novelty, the exotic, the different. These substitutions are elaborated and accompanied by the paradoxical feeling of always being “out” of events and, at the same time, the need to integrate and participate in these events. Being a strategic place for the passing of guns, drugs and arm forces. Mampuján villager were caught for years in the crossfire between paramilitary and guerrilla groups. Today after years of violence and displacement, it inhabitants search for a change that brings life back to Mampuján. This place witnessed a systematic history of human rights violations committed by the civil-military dictatorship that devastated Chile between 1973 and 1990. Testimonies of these violations are presented through the history of locations such as the San Juan de Dios Hospital, the Barros Arana National Boarding School (INBA), the Bulnes Bridge, the Los Capuchinos Church, the headquarters of the Committee for Cooperation for Peace in Chile, and the mural in honor of the MIR leader Jécar Neghme is reconstructed. Estas fueron realizadas con tintas de grabado y utilizando matrices de linóleum y de madera. En ellas se buscaba consolidar en una superficie el gesto espontáneo de la pintura con la el trabajo mas meditativo del tallado e impresión de las matrices gráficas. Estas Mono impresiones representan abstracciones del entorno del taller de grabado. Son una aproximación a las formas elementales de los objetos básicos a partir de los cuales cada proyecto se origina. Parte de las fotografías usadas en esta serie fueron realizadas con cámara de largo formato (4 x 5 pulgadas) los negativos fueron escaneados y posteriormente digitalizados. Finalmente, el archivo digital es transferido a la placa de cobre usando un tejido gelatinoso que registra toda la información en valores de grises de la imagen, para luego ser mordida la placa con los procesos tradicionales de la aguafuerte. En estos trabajos hay una aproximación autoreferencial y biográfica que explora los nexos con lo cotidiano del entorno, con los objetos que rememoran la idea de domesticidad y con mi propia imagen. Estos nexos son los que posibilitan crear un dialogo con el espacio, y una memoria que evoca la temporalidad. In addition, the fragility of the materials simultaneously stand out in these projects as the fragility of a look that looks for fragments of stories. There is a desire to turn engraving into an object to enhance its possibilities as a visual form capable of general dialogues between text and image. Some of the projects that explore the multiple possibilities offered by the art book are presented here. Thought more as three-dimensional objects, these works incorporate both digital processes (such as digital photography and photo-screen printing) and traditional processes such as embossing, photogravure, woodcut or letterpress. La manualidad y la intimidad de estos trabajos invitan a que lo visual sean también táctil y afectivo.
